ALOE

 Liliaceae

What a great herb this is to have in any garden. It requires so little input and attention. It thrives in almost any condition and reproduces itself with amazing vigour. We started our aloe garden with a dozen small specimens and within 18 months we had literally hundreds.

We harvest the 'gel' as we need it. If you extract it carefully, 'wizz' it in the blender, and pop it in a clean bottle in the refrigerator it will last for weeks. Especially great during hot summers when you get a little too exposed to the midday sun.

Beautanicals Herb Nursery

While it is very possible to strike it from seed, it is much less time consuming to separate the pups and plant them on. We sell one year old plants that already have small ones attached.

When harvesting the gel from the leaves, care must be taken not to use the bitter yellow juice at the base of the leaf. While 'bitter aloes' are used by herbalists as a treatment for constipation, the accidental use of this compound can have serious effects.

Unfortunately we cannot supply plants, rootlets or divisions to Western Australia, Tasmania or Overseas.
