A very effective covering
for a broken down or unsightly fence, this annual is quick
to strike, fast to grow and almost impossible to stop once
it's decided to occupy that particular area of your yard.
Loofa has an abundance of male flowers that appear and drop off on a daily basis and then produces the female flowers that will become the fruit.
The flower buds, shoots and young leaves are edible but we do not use them as the odour is not to our liking at all.

At present
Smooth Loofa is undergoing
research as a potential treatment for diabetes.
Tests so far are proving that is
effective and has no side effects.
Our best use of the plant is the
wonderful sponge like character of the dried peeled fruit.
