Amaranthus caudatus
Love lies bleeding

Amaranthaceae

Spreads to about 30-45cm and a height of 90-1.2m.
Flowers are a long pendant tassel usually in crimson that trail down.
Lance shaped leaves ranging in colour from purple to yellow-green.

They enjoy moderately fertile, well drained soil but this species will tolerate poor soil.
Sow seeds at a temperature of at least 20°c. Plant out in spring or early summer
when the danger of frost has passed. Flowers profusely in summer.
Collect flowering heads late summer and autumn, dry in a warm environment. Self-seeds freely.
