As a low border plant, these are wonderful. They are herbaceous, so they will disappear every winter but re emerge in Spring to delight the garden all over again.

Balloon Flower strike easily from seed with no complicated treatment and transplant well once established.

In China and Japan, the tender leaves are often used as a salad vegetable. The roots of at least a 'two year old' plant, can be treated (please research),  for use as a cough suppressant, to help with long term phlegm as well as inflammation of the throat from bronchitis.
